After a homeowner noticed bats flying around their cabin, an exterior inspection revealed signs of activity around a vent. A look inside the attic confirmed multiple bats and accumulated guano around the vent area.

A one-way bat exclusion device was prepared and installed over the exit point, allowing the bats to leave while preventing re-entry through the same opening. The material was even painted to better blend with the cabin exterior.

  • No. Sealing an active entry point too soon can trap bats inside the structure. The property should first be inspected and an appropriate exclusion method used to allow the bats to exit before entry points are permanently sealed.

  • A one-way bat door, or exclusion device, is installed over an active entry point. It allows bats to leave the structure but prevents them from re-entering through the same opening. Once the bats are safely out, appropriate entry points can be sealed.

  • Bat guano is bat droppings that can accumulate beneath roosting areas and entry points. Larger accumulations can create odor, damage building materials, and may present health concerns when contaminated material is disturbed. Professional evaluation is recommended before attempting significant cleanup.
